Talking to and working with property managers over the years it seems that the longer in the industry the more screwed up we often become (please don't take offence). How many times have we heard the senior property managers say "I'm over it!" |

| Cool. Another great trick that I use is one that involves a bit of visualising. Sounds a bit like I have been smoking too much weed (which could also be an option) but I find it really good being a kenetic and visual learner. I first draw a picture of a switch and make it memorable any way I can. Then I imagine that it has a work setting and a home setting. Then each day i imagine flicking that switch when I leave to home. I also don't bust in and uload my monkeys on the first person I see when I get home which is handy. Makes home life a heap better. No shop talk at home. | |||

Letting go - this is one of the biggest hurdles I see most PM's deal with....It took me about 10 years to learn that at the end of the day I was JUST DOING A JOB!!!! Some of the tips I give people when I am doing training are: 1. Be positive - think positively. Don't dwell on what went wrong in the day think about the sucess story of the day or the great person you helped. 2. Unwind before you walk in the door at home - this was really important to me as a mum of 4, everyone would be waiting to see me at the end of the day and they didn't want the cranky mum they wanted the happy mum, so I would listen to upbeat (dosh dosh) music, think about something that was funny that had happened, think of how much I loved my family and how excited I was to be going home (at last). 3. End the week on a high - as the Dept Manager I introduced DISCO FRIDAY to the office from 3pm we would play music and I would encourage everyone to have a boogie or just sing along - everyone took it in turns to bring their favourite music - one week someone brought indian music so we all learnt how to do the "change a light bulb and pat the dog" dance.... 4. DON'T FORGET TO BREATH AND LAUGH - you should have a belly laugh at least once per day, don't take life so seriously....enjoy life and enjoy what you do - it is just a job......
