I’ll be very interested in knowing what Fees and Charges other States are allowed to charge tenants. For example in Queensland you cannot charge late fees for tenants that are always in arrears. Anybody knows?? We didnt… |

In WA we are not allowed to charge tenants ANY fees. In some circumstances, such as a break lease they must refund the owner the costs incurred for breaking the lease, however no fees are to be charged direct to the tenant. eg, our agency cannot make any money from the tenant, and fair enough. |

Hi Peter We cannot charge tenants fees either (other than default fees for bounced payments)and I agree with Amber that it would be unreasonable to do so. This is not to say that tenants should not pay for damage or compensation etc. In NSW we have the option to insert a “break Fee” in the tenancy agreement. if a tenant breaks their lease. 6 weeks rent as a fee for a lease break in the first half of their tenancy and 4 weeks in the second half.
