Interested if anyone out there is doing Property Management from outside the office?

I had a successful go at it when one of my long term property managers had a baby but still wanted to work part time.

We had her doing routine inspections in the mornings and she would remote into our computer from home and do all the reporting from home.

Positives were astounding productivity with no interruptions and we kept on a valuable team member.

Thoughts?

We had our computer tech add remote access to the pm’s computer which allows access to her computer inside the office.
It is really just like you are sitting in front of your own computer but at home.

I use it reguarly myself on my day off (which of course is one of the draw backs) to remote in and answer emails etc

it’s even easier if you use a property management platform that is web based instead of software.  Does it cost anything to have remote access installed to a computer for software?

Remote access or VPN – exactly like Karen said – you see what you would normally see on your normal computer. I work on the run all the time and it makes life very easy. I can be anywhere and still work, have access to all the contact info and data I need.

so definitely sounds like a requirement for the modern day property manager…

We have just upgraded every staff members phone to an iPhone with the notion of being able to access emails while out of the office. Can this type of remote access be installed onto iPhones? Or is it only available to computers?

Karen and Ashlee – have you used Field Agent yet?  Any suggestions for version 1.3 that may help those remote or working from home property managers?
