Media Release 12th November 2009

Local Agency – Goes Green Project – Saves 5,800,000 litres of water

Local Real Estate Agency Compton & Green of Williamstown and Yarraville (Vic) have directly saved 5.8 mil litres or water..
Compton & Green began their Goes Green initiative in late 2006, since then the initiative has been responsible changing over 200 shower heads to water saving, 12 single flush toilets to dual flush and a couple of water tanks.

The Goes Green project enables Compton & Green property managers to conduct a 12 point environment audit while completing a condition report of their rented properties.
Then the Audit is sent to the owner and alerts them to the “environmental” states of there property according to Compton & Green. there is no obligation to make any changes however Compton & Green undertake to manage any changes at no extra cost to the owner. The Agency has seen 20% of there owners take up changes like water saving shower heads immediately, other owners have suggested it gets noted on file and changes made next time a plumber is at the home.

The Goes Green project is simple, easy and clearly effective, and have had a massive impact to the community" said Adrian Butera, Director of Compton & Green.

The Real Estate Institute of Victoria have recognised the project and are pleased with its direction.

Adrian’s vision is to see the Project go further, see it taken up by Real Estate Agencies throughout Victoria. We manage hundreds of thousands of properties in Victoria as a collective, this simple and easy process can have a direct and instant effect on our water supply, If all agents placed the 12 point audit on there condition reports, alerted the owners and we managed the changes, Goes Green would save Hundreds of Millions of litters of water per year. Why wouldn’t you!

Also Tenants will be attracted to energy efficient homes, lowering there cost of living and a positive impact on the environment.

Condition Reports are a prescribed document, the State Government should look at adding this Goes Green audit to all condition reports for all owners, Tenants & agents to enjoy.
