Hi Guys, well after much deliberation and many restless nights I have changed jobs (companies), must admit not an easy decision. I loved my previous boss as a person she was awesome but sadly not interested in the Property Management side of her business. I would have loved to remain freinds with her but she has made it quite clear this is not an option. How have others dealt with this situation. Dont get me wrong I am so happy to be in my new role with a company who sees Property Management as a vital/integeral part of the business as I do. Just sad to lose the “mateshisp” I thought I had found in my previous position.

Firstly Lorainne, congratulations on your new position – and well done for having the courage to take a new step (I am so sick of hearing people moan about their current job instead of actually getting off their butt and making changes!!! – surely life is way to short to spend your days in a job you are not 100% happy with).

Secondly, I believe that with time, and once things have simmered down, that if you truly did have a mateship with your ex boss your friendship will return.

Have a great day Lorainne!

Hi Lorainne,

Congratulations on you new job!

I know exactly how you feel. My last place had one of the best team atmospheres i had ever worked in but it was primarily a sales agency and unfortunately all the staff (including property management) see it as a sales agency. After i left it went a bit cold with the boss which i was quite surprised about as we had a very amicable relationship after it was decided that i move on. I have been gone for about 3 months now and while things with the boss are still shakey, if we see each other down the street we both stop and say hi.

I think its just time. I know in my case, the boss didnt particularly like the fact that i wanted PM to be seen as equal to sales and maybe felt a little defensive when i told him i was going to a purely property managment agency.

Im now in a much better place both in myself and professionally. And while im disappointed about how things turned out, i know that it was the decision i had to make.

Property management is the lifeblood of a real estate agency. I find it hard to understand why so many principals don’t see it that way. Maybe if the OFT ensured that more property management modules were included in the initial registration training and licence training we could have more people who actually understood what we really do. When someone does the basic training they receive a Salesperson’s certiificate. Why can’t we have a Property Management certificate?

PS Also in the past I have complained numerous times that there is not enough training for property management—particlarly for North Queensland. Someone has been listening to my complaints I think as we are starting to get some more trainers starting to come north. Now what we need is Principals allowing their PM’s to attend otherwise the trainers will stop coming. I go to everyone I can find. Off to see Simon from RED tomorrow. I hope lots of others will be attending too
