It used to be a running comment that you weren’t a REAL property manager unless you’d discovered someone dead in one of your managed properties. So what did you do? How did you handle it? Are you still weary of entering properties? |

Lol – Fortunately I haven’t found a tenand who had died yet, though I have had a couple where tenants have died in the property and I’ve had to deal with the aftermath. Been doing this for a few years now and apparently according to the law of averages I’m about due to come across one. |

There could be a good black comedy movie in this. Kind of a Weekend at Bernies or one of those hide the body and the body disappears kind of flicks. :) |

Sarah. We had this discussion last night at our christmas party. I think if each office wrote a book there would be some amazing best sellers out there.
Fortunantely I have not had to witness a corpse but have also had to handle the aftermath. Including taking photo’s of a pretty horriffic suicide. |

Clint – damn, I must admit that my photos weren’t too horrific thankfully. |

Clint – Did the police advise of specific cleaners for the job or did they just get it done? Soda water just doesn’t cut it sometimes. |

I’ve always got trauma cleaners on the books if I need them. Being where I have previously managed I have had to use them for druggo clean ups more than anything thankfully. Best bet is to find a good one that services your area and go with them! |

They didnt organise any cleaning but they told us who to use. There are certain chemicals (formaldahide I think its called) that only some cleaners use.
Another good tip I received from a funeral home director, if there is a corpse left in a property for some time and it creates an odour to use citrus based air freshner and lots of it. |

Citrus huh? That stuff is good for everything, if you have a neighbours cat using your property as it’s kitty litter just put some orange peel in the garden beds you don’t want it in and it will avoid it – they really don’t like the citrus in their kitty litter :). |
